Building 8 … Production

While I may not have been born in Charleston, my dad’s side of the family are all Charlestonians. Both of my grandparents were born and grew up in Charleston, SC. In fact, my husband pointed out that when my grandmother passed away at the age of 97 she had lived in a total of two homes. The one where she was born and the one where my dad was born. That’s it.

Like many Charlestonians of his time, my grandfather (who we always called Papa) worked on the Charleston Navy Yard.

You can imagine my delight as I made one of my last turns towards one of our client’s offices for the first time when I realized that I realized they were located on the Navy Yard just steps away from this building. Building 8-production. The building my grandfather worked in for years.

He would have been 100 this year.

As I stood in front of Building 8, I stood at the crossroads of my “why” for starting Philanthrope Reimagined - Legacy Centered. Generational Impact. Empowering Organizations.

I never wanted to be a consultant (in fact, I rarely reference myself as one, but that is another story for another day). But, my passion to empower organizations to help create a better tomorrow for future generations led me here. An opportunity to help good people do good things by reimagining philanthropy and in doing so, help create strong legacies for future generations.

It's humbling to work alongside such amazing organization and I'm truly honored to be able to do so.

But let’s be honest…it’s selfish as well.

It’s a privilege to have one’s career feel like a calling.

And, yes, I immediately texted the picture to my dad, who simply texted back: "Papa would be proud."
